The first recipient of the Elizabeth Candy Scholarship, Chloe Chen, joined LEH in September 2017. Chloe scored very highly in her entrance exams and has been also been awarded a music scholarship, as she is an excellent cellist and pianist. Chloe is thriving at LEH.
This scholarship is made possible by our generous donors who gave to the School to honour the memory of Miss Elizabeth Candy, Head Mistress of LEH 1981-2004. Miss Candy was much loved and admired by many in the LEH community, so it seemed entirely fitting that a special scholarship be established in her name and this prestigious, means tested, new award should be reserved for an exceptionally talented girl.
Miss Candy was passionate about widening access to LEH, enabling any girl capable of benefitting from an LEH education to take her place here, regardless of background or financial circumstances.
"Miss Candy gave me the opportunity to attend Lady Eleanor Holles on a fully paid scholarship via the Assisted Place Scholarship scheme. I don’t think it is dramatic to say this changed the course of my start in life.
I still give thanks and a smile to the lady who saw the potential in me. I hope I have lived up to her expectations of what I could achieve with an LEH education"
Ania Markham, LEH 1983 –1990
