Current Governor Cathy Millis, Class of 1989, is calling on other alumnae to step forward. Cathy chairs the Education, Staff and Welfare Committee. She says: “Being a Governor is a rewarding way to use my business skills to give back to an organisation that was instrumental in making me the person that I am today. I have been very impressed to learn about the immense effort that goes in to making the School such a success. I would recommend it to those that have the time and passion for supporting the purpose of the School.”
As a Governor you will need strategic vision and to be willing to work collaboratively with the rest of the Board. You will have a genuine interest in education and most of all, you will have commitment and enthusiasm to support the School in furthering its aims.
Charlotte Thomas, Class of 2001, who sits on the Finance and Estates Committee in addition to the Board of Governors, says: “As a past pupil at LEH I can bring a different perspective to the role. My own education was the bedrock of who I am today with the members of the Art department - Miss Pauffley, Miss Peat, Mrs Barclay and Mrs Richardson sowing the seeds for my career, let alone the indelible marks of influence that Miss Candy left with me (sometimes my collar is up although I don’t own a pair of burgundy coloured tights !) …. So this is my chance to give back.
“As an Architect I can call on my experience within the built environment and most latterly challenging the School’s sustainability manifesto as well as highlighting the importance of STEM subjects. The carpet has been removed from the walls along the corridors but the updates to the uniform did pull on my heartstrings!
“We assist LEH to meet its strategic objectives and influence decision-making, while bringing creativity to the process. We are a diverse Governing Board with various talents and like all institutions need people with different backgrounds to have effective debate."
Current parents cannot be considered for the role, but LEH is particularly inviting applications from people with experience and skills in the following areas:
The term of office for a Governor is four years and most Governors serve two terms. In addition to attending regular board meetings, Governors are expected to be a member of at least one committee overseeing key areas of the school, including Finance and Estates, Education, Staff and Welfare, Compliance and Risk, and Development and Marketing.
The Board welcomes applications from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds and across genders. All applications will be considered as part of the current wider recruitment drive for Governors and will be subject to a formal interview process. LEH is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
If you would like further information about the role, please contact the Clerk to the Governors Alison Skeffington by email on askeffington@lehs.org.uk.
