Joy Lisney (LEH 2004-2011)

Cellist and composer Joy Lisney used her ETA to help add a new string to her bow by purchasing specialist software to help her compose for the screen for the first time.

You might think that writing music is a pretty low-budget activity, but in the 21st Century working as a professional composer requires much more than a pen and a page of manuscript. The Emerging Talent Award has therefore enabled me to broaden my horizons as a composer and take on more ambitious projects by contributing to my new workstation.

I will never leave pen and paper behind entirely, but now I am able to synthesise new sounds using Logic Pro on a powerful desktop computer, as well as prepare my scores for printing at a professional level - concert hall ready!

My compositional life is more varied now because of the opportunities I have been able to take thanks to this new technology. I can now sequence and mix artificial sounds for digital and in the last year I have begun producing music for Jacquie Lawson E-Cards. I hope in future to move into the film and television industry.

In the meantime I  am also writing for the concert hall and look forward to the premiere of my latest piece, Petrichor, which will take place at the Wigmore Hall on 9th January and also be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
