Life Beyond the Spires

Head Mistress Heather Hanbury was delighted by the record turnout of alumnae at this year's Oxford University school trip at the weekend (5th February).

Sixteen former pupils, who are now all undergraduates at Oxford University, took time out from their studies to attend a buffet lunch with 36 current L6 pupils at St Vincent’s Club, just off the High Street, before taking them on a walking tour of the colleges.

It was a unique opportunity for the Sixth Formers, who are currently deciding which universities to apply to, to get a real insiders’ glimpse into academic life and find out if it’s the right fit for them.

“We are very grateful to you for giving up your Saturday afternoon,” said Mrs Hanbury.  “It’s so lovely to see so many of you and to catch up with all your news. I know that quite a few of you would have attended this lunch when you were in the Sixth Form, so you know how helpful it is for pupils.  We’re hoping to see you back in school soon.”

The other teachers who attended were Clare Eltis, Head of Classics, Andrew Hayter, Head of Chemistry, Andy Brittain, Physics teacher, and Natasha Murray, French teacher.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the alumnae who came along: Anna Barrett, studying Classics and Italian at Exeter College; Zara Davis taking Geography at Hertford; Aria Ezaz-Nikpay, studying Earth Sciences at Worcester; Jade Fricot, taking Chemistry at St Catherine’s; Indira Manthry, studying PPE, at Herford; Kaveri Parekh, taking Classics and English at Wadham; Niamh Campbell, taking Geography at St Catherine’s, Cheshmeh Deljouie, studying PPE at Keble, Flora Dyson, taking Music at St John’s; Daisy Ghosal, studying Classics at Trinity; Bethany Ranasinghe, taking Philosophy and Theology at Regent’s Park; Alexandra Travers, studying Earth Sciences at Worcester; Emily Mason taking Engineering at Lincoln; Leila Legris, studying Engineering at Balliol; Georgie Miles taking Medicine at Brasenose and Ella Heger, also studying Medicine at St Anne’s.
