Emerald Reunion Memories

It might be 55 years since Janet Lambley (nee Booth), Class of 1966, left LEH, but her old school photos bring the memories flooding back.

Here she is in the Second Lacrosse Team in 1965 – the tall one on the right, with her socks halfway down her legs! She can also recall many of her classmates and contemporaries: “Next to me on my right, with long blond hair, is Jenny Dowse, then Alison Saunders, Pip (I think), two who were in the year below whose names I don’t remember, and Bronwen Davies at the end.

“In front of Bronwen, with short dark hair is Diana Landsborough, then Mary (I think), Jill Howell is the goalie in the middle, then Judy Bellamy next to her and Gill Holdup in front of me. The photo was taken at a lacrosse tournament at Merton Abbey on April 7th 1965.

“I do remember the fixture and think we did well in the tournament. I enjoyed playing lacrosse, though I wasn’t particularly good at it. Matches were on Wednesdays or Saturday mornings. We had match teas in the domestic science room. We brought cakes we’d made at home. Away matches were always exciting as it was interesting to see other schools.”

She also has a photo of the First Lacrosse Team – possibly from a year later, in 1966, which was taken at the school. “It looks like some of the players have been promoted and you’ll recognise them from the Second Team. The teacher was Mrs Woodcock. The tall blond girl in the middle of the back row is Celia Brackenridge, who went on to reach great heights in the worlds of lacrosse and sports science, but sadly is no longer with us. She was in the year below me.”

And we’re delighted that she has also shared a photo of the 1966 prefects with Head Mistress Miss Garwood Scott.  Janet is the one with short hair, standing behind her right shoulder.
